On Wednesday, 14 May, members of the North West London Integrated Care Board (NWL ICB) visited Hounslow to gain a deeper understanding of how the Borough Based Partnership (BBP) is implementing innovative health projects to improve outcomes for residents.
The visit was designed to provide the Board with real, on-the-ground insight into Hounslow’s health landscape and the collaborative efforts underway to tackle local challenges.
To set the scene, Board members took part in a guided walk-through Hounslow High Street, where they heard directly from key local leaders:
- Amit Gupta, Hounslow Medical Director
- Kelly O’Neil, Director of Public Health
- Martin Waddington, Director of Commissioning/Borough Director Hounslow NWL ICB
- Mark Jarvis, Assistant Director of Place, NWL
- Pauline Mason, Assistant Director, Borough Based Partnership
During the walk, the group explored local health priorities and heard how the BBP is leveraging data, community engagement, and partnership working to address long-standing inequalities.
A highlight of the visit was a stop at the Health Outreach Team (HOT) shop in the Treaty Centre, visiting Jaz Gill, HOT Programme Manager, and Sue Colwell, HOT Team Leader.
Here, the Board experienced first-hand how the service is engaging directly with underserved communities, offering tailored support and advice to residents in a trusted, accessible setting. The shop is a key part of the BBP’s strategy to bring health services closer to people and improve access in the heart of the community.
The visit concluded at Hounslow House, where attendees took part in a series of presentations and discussions showcasing local programmes, such as Bridging Care, which has helped to reduce hospital discharge delays, and Stay Steady and Active, which is helping to improve residents' activity levels and reduce their falls risk.
These sessions highlighted how integrated working across sectors—health, public health, social care, and the voluntary sector—is producing tangible outcomes and creating a sustainable approach to health and wellbeing in Hounslow.
